Receive What God is Giving

In 1880 Adoniram Judson Gordon wrote in his book, “The Believer’s Union with His Lord”:

“‘For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body…’ (1 Corinthians 12:13 – ESV). But for God to give is one thing, for us to receive is quite another. ‘God so love the world that He gave His only begotten son,’ is the word of our Lord to Nicodemus. But it is written also; ‘As many as received Him to them He gave power to become sons of God.’ In order to realize regeneration and sonship it is absolutely essential for us to receive as for God to have given.”

We are given this tremendous gift of a second chance when we’re born again. We accept Jesus as the Lord of our life and He, through His great love and grace, promises us that we will be with Him in heaven when we pass from this life on earth. Wow! Fantastic!

Making this commitment of belief in Jesus is a new beginning for us. With the Holy Spirit as our constant and faithful companion we are never alone. Our personal redemption is assured.

After the initial salvation experience, something else amazing happens for us as we choose to allow God to redefine our lives and allow His light to shine in every corner of our hearts and minds. When we let go of those things that hold us back from God – issues of pride, possession, ego, selfishness, sin, unrighteous thoughts and beliefs, etc. – and make the decision to allow Jesus to minister to and redirect us, we will discover a new freedom and joy greater than we have ever known.

It seems impossible to give up these things that have been so important to us and, in some cases, define us and have brought us temporary gratification. But Jesus warns, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)

The decisions to change our ways is ongoing, day-to-day. We know there is no magic wand that taps our shoulder and from then on everything is peachy keen. However, the inspirational promise of Jesus is, “ …whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” John 4:14 (NIV)

This means the search is over. We will be filled if we keep a close relationship with the Lord through prayer, reading the Word and fellowship. No more emptiness. Life is purposeful and full as we go forward with Jesus!

Lord, today is a new day and we thank You for your great love! We want to do Your will today… to be sensitive to others and to help those who have need. We have a peace that passes all understanding because of our relationship with You. Our hearts are full of thanksgiving and we give You praise. Amen!
