God-Focused

But David kept thinking to himself, “Someday Saul is going to get me. The best thing I can do is escape to the Philistines. Then Saul will stop hunting for me in Israelite territory, and I will finally be safe.” 1 Samuel 27:1 NLT

You might remember that this is the same guy who fought the Philistine Giant, Goliath, and beat him. David trusted in God for the victory. He was not afraid.

Time after time we, not just David, fall short when fear or uncertainty appear.

It still happens today when we self-focus instead of God-Focus.

It’s easy to say, “keep your eyes on Jesus our Savior”, but it’s a test when difficult situations suddenly come. What are we really going to do in those circumstances?

David self-focused and said something ungodly – “someday Saul is going to get me”. Then he went to the Philistines – an ungodly choice. The Philistines were the enemies of the people of God, Israel.

As we look at ourselves, even with all we know from the bible, it’s easy to doubt, waiver, and even retreat to old patterns of behavior focusing on ourselves rather than God. Let’s all be reminded of what Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding”.

God, we pray that our hearts won’t get distracted by the fears of this world. We commit our minds to you and take captive everything that comes against the knowledge that comes from the Holy Spirit. Jesus, you are who we desire. Amen

Thanks to everyone who helped with the BBQ last Sunday. What a blessing to see Jesus + People hanging out and enjoying the day. This is worship! We love you so much and appreciate your love and prayers toward our family. My wife and I are honored to be called your friends.

Pray with us as we continue to pray about discipleship. Who is my disciple or do I need to be a disciple?
