“… but they refused. ‘No,’ they said, ‘we don’t drink wine, because our ancestor Jehonadab son of Recab gave us this command: You and your descendants must never drink wine. And do not build houses or plant crops or vineyards, but always live in tents. If you follow these commands, you will live long, good lives in the land.’”
Jeremiah 35:6-7 (NLT)
This section in the Bible talks about a group of people that were given an instruction about the way they should live. The Recabites were told don’t ever drink wine and always live in tents. God used them as an example to speak to Judah and Jerusalem. The Recabites followed what they were told. They obeyed the Lord. And because they did, God blessed them with a long and good life in the land.
This isn’t about drinking wine or living in tents. This is about being obedient to what the Lord tells you. Be faithful with that. Check your life. God only wants us to obey and follow what He is telling us personally. Let’s not worry about what others are not doing; let’s focus on what we need to do. The Lord continues to see if we will be faithful with our own lives and responsibilities. Let’s do that.
In Jesus’ Name, we can. He will bless us.
Be blessed! Our fight continues on. We remain on the front line and we will give our time, talent and treasure to advancing His Kingdom in this battle for People + Jesus.
