All His promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. Psalm 18:30 (NLT)
We all have many concerns about issues for which we have no direct control.
The pandemic, war in the Ukraine, gender teaching to young children and much more. In addition to these are the age-old human shortcomings of hate, anger, unforgiveness, racism, etc.
1. Where do we find shelter from the storm?
2. How do we live a full, productive, and loving life?
3. Is the term “these difficult times” any different today than it’s been throughout human history?
The short answer to these three questions is
1. Jesus
2. Jesus
3. No
The psalms are loaded with wisdom about dependence on God. Psalm 91 begins, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” (NLT). In Isaiah 41:10, God comforts us, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God” (NLT)
We’re only human.
We’re only human. We are weak and our resistance to bad attitudes and ungodly behavior in word and deed can sometimes wane. Even if we believe these scriptures, we still feel the need to have an opinion rather than appear uninformed when these subjects come up in conversation.
We might imagine that the world has never been so messed up as it is today. In the years when Jesus was ministering (30AD) there were many of the same issues, but this didn’t affect His purpose and mission. He healed, restored and loved wherever He was and whoever He was with. He didn’t ignore the times He lived in (“give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar …”) nor was He distracted by them.
This week we pray that the psalms mentioned in this message will become revelation to each of us. We know God is perfect in all His ways and His promises are yes and amen. He is sufficient and He will protect us if we seek His shelter.
