“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15: 8-10
In chapter 15 of Luke there are 3 parables showing Jesus’ compassion for the individual person – the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son. He is imploring us to reach out to those who feel they are on the outside – unloved and unwanted. We are called to love on people wherever they’re at. We need to help them meet their needs.
We’ve all heard it said that our greatest personal testimony is how we live our lives. Lost people need our love and compassion.
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God. Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the 99.

What a great song that perfectly aligns with how Jesus wants us to think about and respond to the lost when we come across them in our daily lives. It might be a friend, a homeless person, a cashier, a waiter, a family member or someone else.
Lord, we pray to be sensitive to the needs of those around us and have a servant’s heart to provide something of benefit when the opportunities come. Help us to be prepared with the right attitude and be willing to step out of our “normal” and extend a hand when someone needs help. Amen
