New Baseline for Normal

“For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.’ We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.” 2 Peter 1:16-18

Imagine being a witness to that moment when heaven opened and God spoke to Jesus. God calls Him “my dearly loved Son” leaving no doubt about His heritage. Jesus is God made flesh. There is no one we can talk to who has more wisdom, love, or clarity. He wants us to come to Him in the good times and the tough times.

This past weekend, Pastor Larry Faulkner introduced the concept of “our baseline for normal.” This was defined as how we normally view the world and respond to it. This baseline is established in our lives by our experiences and relationships from childhood to adulthood.

Unfortunately, without Jesus in the mix our baseline for normal is flawed. While it may get us through some things, it is lacking in others.

Pastor Larry Faulkner asked us to consider a new baseline for normal where Jesus takes first position as our intimate partner in all aspects of our life. For some of us that is a big step of trust and faith. But no one is more faithful than the Lord. No one loves like He does.

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5

He wants to make us new for a good reason. He wants to help us fulfill our purpose for which we were created. Find a moment each day to pause and acknowledge God’s presence before making a decision or taking an action. Maybe it’s something small or large. Remember our church theme this month, “Jesus in all my Life.”

God bless you all. Let’s celebrate Thanksgiving every day! See you next Sunday at Barranca Vista Park at 12noon.
