You Can Make a Difference

JEHOVAH-RAAH

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

Jehovah-Raah in Psalm 23 refers to The Lord My Shepherd. This is our inspiration to take to heart the message in Matthew 5 that we are to be a light that shines for others. We are to be compassionate and sensitive to other’s needs because we have the light of the Holy Spirit inside us to guide our steps and lead us to doing good.

Just as Jesus cares for us, we are to care for those around us. We ask the Lord to help us have eyes to see when someone we come across in our day is hurting – emotionally, mentally, physically, or spiritually. We can make the difference in that person’s life by stepping up and helping them through some of the pain they are experiencing.

Aside from prayers for our family and friends, we must also ask God for guidance in making ourselves available to those in need. It might just be a smile or a simple moment of kindness that lifts and encourages someone else.

Even as we pass through our own trials in life, we are still called by Jesus to be accessible to those around us when the situation presents itself. In Genesis 12 God promises Abraham he will be blessed so he can be a blessing to all. Likewise, when we reach out past our own day-to-day lives and serve others which blesses them, we receive from God the fulfillment of that same promise and are greatly blessed.

Prayer: Lord, keep our eyes open and our ears listening to be ready to help others. We are willing. You tell us we are “the light of the world”. We want to spread your love light wherever we can to bring glory to Your Name. Amen
