“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” Matthew 26:52 (NIV)
Bad news between Russia and the Ukraine; nation against nation. There is a long list of current affairs that are beyond our individual reach, but because of the internet, Twitter, Facebook, etc., none of these major issues escapes our notice. Race, social injustice, human trafficking, immigration, gender identity, religious freedom, intellectual freedom, coronavirus, misinformation … to name a few.
Our understanding of these concerns is limited and confused for the most part. Who do we trust? What information is accurate and unbiased? Where are the real answers?
There is only one certain answer. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (ESV) It is by staying close to the Lord in all things that He can guide us through the minefield of life. While, as individuals, we may not be able to affect change of the greatest challenges facing humanity, the help and influence of Jesus will absolutely transform us to be more in His likeness in relation to our family, friends and community.
We are responsible to pray for change and peaceful resolution to all the current crises. Pray for God’s intervention; the souls of those whose lives are threatened by their circumstances; the minds and hearts of leadership who have the power to turn the bad for good – for the better welfare of all people.
Misplaced anger or misdirected behavior has no place with God’s people. We must “put our swords back in its (their) place” with Christ-like attitudes and actions in response to the attacks of the world. “…He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 (ESV).
We can and must rely on the Holy Spirit now more than ever. When we choose to put God first – in His rightful place at the center and head of our lives – we can live in the promise of “His peace which surpasses all understanding.”
May the peace of the Lord be with you.
