God Brings Peace

WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED?

Jimmy Ruffin sang, “… I know I got to find some kind of peace of mind.”

Well, Jimmy, here it is, “… and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)

What gives us peace in our day-to-day lives? We know it starts with Jesus. He is the Peacegiver and the Peacemaker. He offers His peace through us in our relationship with others as well as ourselves. We are limited in how effective we can be as witnesses of the gospel when we’re struggling with others or uneasy in our own skin.

The solution seems simple enough. Seek the Lord through prayer, read His Word, pause in the middle of tension, then wait for God’s peace to come over you. Sound good?

Someone once told me that if a dog bites me to just relax my body and the dog will let go. Hmm. That wouldn’t be easy to do. Likewise, in moments of stress and irritation, the last thing we might think to do is call on Jesus to help us out. But He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit who is there through thick and thin. He wants to help and He can help in any situation or emotion.

If we will stop to wait and listen, then wisdom will come and so will that peace. God’s peace does surpass all understanding. Haven’t you experienced that? How that’s possible is something we can ask in heaven someday. For now, we want to set an example of the highest standard in modeling the love and compassion of Christ. We can only do that when we keep our eyes on Jesus.

“ … for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13 (NIV)

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

Peace to all of you! Shalom
