“Do not remember the former things, or ponder the things of the past. Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 (AMP)
One of my many faults in life is looking back and wishing, “I should have done it different”. I remain there in defeat and sorrow because I made mistakes that now make me feel bad and I remain stuck, not wanting to believe in the future.
The verse says, “do not remember the former things or ponder the things of the past.” Why is the writer telling us not to do something that we all do? We remember and we ponder. When I “remember and ponder” it usually leaves me depressed and/or defeated. I’m focusing on the past, not the future.
That is why the next verse tells us to “listen carefully.” Yes! That is what brings me out of thinking past thoughts and remembering past defeats. I listen to God’s voice telling me something totally different. “I am about to do a new thing.”
I shared on Sunday about “new things” and Pastor Dan reminded us of how important it is to look ahead with the hope that God has so much more for us. Yes, He is doing a “new thing” at our church, and He is doing a “new thing” in your life. It’s there but it’s up to us to believe it, embrace it, and receive it.
So today I make a choice to forget the past and believe in the future where new things are found. God willing, He will provide a home for our church. We are in a wilderness but it’s a good place as we head into the future.
Let’s remember to pray for our nation, our homes, our schools, and our churches.
Our future looks good!
