The Peace of God

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
Matthew 5:9 (NIV)

In the course of our daily lives there are so many ways that our peace can be upset. In our personal lives, we might face physical, emotional, psychological, or spiritual challenges. Social media pundits, TV journalists, newsprint reporters, and politicians bombard us with a narrative that we are hopelessly divided by our individual philosophies, races, genders, ages, and economic status (to name a few). Pharmaceutical companies are constantly pushing their latest multi-billion-dollar pill that we must take to survive – inventing ridiculous names for the problem and for the medication.

So, what do we have to worry about? With all the drugs and therapists available, we should all be fine, right? While these may help and bring temporary relief, they are not the source for complete healing.

But there is a perfect and complete answer to every prayer we present to our Lord. He will always make a difference. He will always give us peace, even if we do not understand how He does it.

When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this? “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us, and help us.” “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up. After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” Mark 9:20-29 (NIV)

We must believe… and we must be available to pray for those who are hurting – for ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. God is powerful and faithful to those who love Him. He does not leave us alone to struggle and fight. He is our champion of peace. He delivers us from our troubles. His is the Perfect Peace.
