After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” Matthew 28:1-6 (NIV)
Jesus fulfilled His promise to rise up from the grave and conquer death.
By His everlasting life He revealed the lie of Satan. He was the undisputed evidence of eternal life. All of us who accept Him as our Lord and Savior are bound for the same destiny. We are redeemed. We, too, will live forever.
So many times we read in our bibles about the miraculous life-changing moments in the lives of those who came in contact with Christ. A small sample of Jesus’ legacy includes,
- Bringing Lazarus back from death to life
- Helping Peter fill his nets with fish
- Feeding thousands with just a handful of bread and fish (more than once),
- Healing the leper, the possessed, the heartbroken, the lame, the prostitute
No miracle is greater than when He overcame death.
He made a promise to the apostles to return to them after His crucifixion and He did just that. Following His return, while He was still here on earth, He made another promise which was this…
“ … wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” John 1:4-5 (NIV)
Armed with the power and direction of the Holy Spirit… “Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’”
Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)
We thank you, God Almighty, for becoming flesh and living among us. You showed us the way, the truth and the life. You suffered; then You overcame death and lived!
