And he ordered his bodyguards, “Kill these priests of the Lord, for they are allies and conspirators with David! They knew he was running away from me, but they didn’t tell me!” But Saul’s men refused to kill the Lord’s priests. Then the king said to Doeg, “You do it.” So, Doeg the Edomite turned on them and killed them that day, eighty-five priests in all, still wearing their priestly garments. Then he went to Nob, the town of the priests, and killed the priests’ families—men and women, children and babies—and all the cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats. 1 Samuel 22:17-19 NLT
In this passage Saul does a horrible thing. He kills God’s priests and their families. Later in Psalm 12, David writes a verse that some say describes this wicked event ordered by Saul. In Psalm 12:1 the Passion translation says, “Help, Lord! Godly ones are disappearing. Where are the dependable, principled ones?”
Last year and these first weeks of January we lost some Godly, dependable and principled people. David must have felt terrible because He couldn’t save those faithful ones. The enemy of our souls is at work against God’s church. Jesus said, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18
This will continue, church. We can’t avoid or ignore the battle. We are in it and some of us are going through it. Be encouraged as you fight and sometimes get tired. Jesus goes before us. The things we can’t comprehend now—only God has the power. As David continued to write in Psalm 12, he wrote some words of hope. Also, in Psalm 5 David writes, “But the Lord says, ‘I will arise! I will defend the poor, those who are plundered, the oppressed, and the needy who groan for help. I will spring into action to rescue and protect them!’”
This is my hope every day. I trust the Lord’s words and His actions. Yes, even when it doesn’t make sense, or we may argue why He allows certain things. Church, know this, God is watching and hearing our prayers and petitions on behalf of our loved ones. Don’t lose hope. Stand, pray, and fight the good fight of faith. Our God isn’t done with us yet.
The world needs Jesus. We have Jesus. Let us all continue to give Jesus away to others.
I am sad. I will miss my friends, my brothers and sisters in the Lord. In their memory I will keep following Jesus. Life or death, we will prevail. In Jesus’ Name.
Keep praying. I encourage you to get into a Prayer Connect. We need it as the times change and are unpredictable. We love you very much and we to continue to pray for you all. Our Lord Jesus Christ keep you safe and strong as the battle moves on.
