Jesus – The Word Became Flesh

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1: 1

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

In our scheduled Bible reading, today marks the beginning of the gospel of John, who very quickly points out that Jesus is the Word made flesh. Over the course of the first three chapters, John gives a firsthand account of Jesus’ early days of ministry—meeting John the Baptist, inviting His disciples to join Him, performing His first miracle, and engaging Nicodemus to explain what it means to be born again.

Imagine, for a moment, being a witness with John to just these few events.

John is understood to be one of the two disciples of John the Baptist introduced in John 1:35. From that day forward, he witnessed all that happened until Jesus ascended to heaven after overcoming death.

Wow!

The gospel of John helps the reader understand the divinity of Jesus. Chuck Swindoll writes, “While the other three gospels portray Jesus as the King, the Servant, and the Son of Man, John portrays Jesus as the Son of God. John stated his theme more clearly than any of the other gospel writers.”

In John 1:24, John the Baptist says, “I have seen, and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.” Jesus is set apart from all other persons. That is why we can confidently pray to Him and know He is God and He hears us. He is faithful and always available to us. We are never alone.

Prayer:
Jesus, we know You are divine. Your ways are far greater than our understanding. Many influences try to undermine our confidence in You. Lord, forgive us for questioning You. We remember the day we said yes to You and no to the world. Forgive us for the times we fail to keep You in Your rightful place on the throne of our lives. We commit to do better. We love You. Amen

And Lord we want to lift your name on high.
And Lord we want to thank you for the works you’ve done in our lives.
And Lord we trust in your unfailing love.
For you alone are God eternal throughout earth and heaven above.
