Please Wait

Saul waited there seven days for Samuel, as Samuel had instructed him earlier, but Samuel still didn’t come. Saul realized that his troops were rapidly slipping away. So, he demanded, “Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings!” And Saul sacrificed the burnt offering himself. Samuel 13:8-9 (NLT)

We all fall short. So, before we throw rocks at Saul, let’s look closely at the story and see how it relates to us.

It’s very common that a person we trust and listen to will give us some good advice. It is also common that we hear from them time after time to “wait.” Plus, scripture continues to remind us how people had to wait on the Lord or wait for the right season to come before they acted. The point is, “waiting” is going to be an ongoing part of our Christian walk with Jesus.

Saul was told to wait for Samuel to come back, because Samuel was the only one authorized to make a sacrifice to the Lord. When seven days had passed, the soldiers started to slip away, and Saul felt the pressure to act. He then made the decision to disregard Samuel’s instructions to wait and proceeded to do what wasn’t his to do.

Let’s learn from this passage. We need to wait for the right time and the right person to take their position. Don’t do someone else’s job—be patient. God has a blessing for us when we wait.

Merry Christmas, church! We are celebrating our Lord’s arrival into a broken world. He came to save us and prepare us for His return. Be patient this season. Don’t hurry things. Be in the moment with other people and give them your time.
