The Anointing of God

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Acts of the Apostles 10:38 (NLT)

Anointing in this context means that Jesus was consecrated to the Messianic office and furnished with the necessary powers for its administration. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power.

“Anointing”… We see it used at another event when David was anointed by Samuel in 1 Samuel 16:13. Samuel dedicated David to a sacred purpose. He was about to enter his office as King. Don’t misunderstand this word. The Anointing from God has come to all of us who have received the Holy Spirit. Jesus has given those who believe a sacred office.

You and I have become a royal priesthood. We are to be set apart to be Holy. We have been given an office with authority and power. With the blessings from heaven and the cloud of witnesses that have gone before us, (The Law and the Prophets) the Holy Spirit equips us with the necessary powers for its dispensation, just like Jesus received. We are one with the Holy Spirit. We have become His temple.

Though the anointing can’t be earned, it can be cultivated and increased as you spend time with the Anointed One.

Doing this daily will lead you to operate in your Anointing. Remember – Jesus, David, and anyone one else God appointed had a confirmation of that anointing.

The first step to confirmation is asking, “is this from God”? If it is, then the following will take place. A confirmation from leadership, elders, pastors, and council members. Then another confirmation from people, the big church, the group, the mini church, the outside workplace and marketplace people. The last confirmation is your fruit. Is your tree full of the fruit of the Spirit? Is it healthy and growing?

Hang out with the Anointed One and He will lead you to your Anointing. Here are some gifts given to us with this Anointing from God:

Ephesians 4: Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher
1 Corinthians 12: Administration, Discernment, Faith Healings, Helps, Knowledge, Miracles, Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues, Wisdom
Romans 12: Exhortation, Giving, Leadership, Mercy, Prophecy, Service
Misc. Passages: Celibacy, Hospitality, Martyrdom, Missionary, Volunteer

Be encouraged this week as we are confident that our anointing comes from God. He appoints us, calls us, and leads us as we continue to devote our time to Jesus Christ the Anointed One from Nazareth. Let us do good and heal all who are oppressed from the devil.

Last note – Without Love we are nothing.
